The CIPP/US Privacy Certification and My Courses and Materials
by John Bandler
This is my new landing page for my CIPP/US materials.
If you want to learn more about what CIPP/US is, and start the first part of my materials, that's in the Part 1 materials. CIPP/US is a privacy certification offered by the IAPP (a non-profit organization devoted to privacy. More about the IAPP in Part 1).
Please excuse some construction disruption as I revamp my webpages and update my CIPP/US privacy study courses.

My 2026 updates (in progress, not yet live)
Here's some initial comments about my 2026 updates:
- The core of the body of knowledge (BoK) from IAPP for CIPP/US remains the same and unchanged. Learners should focus on this solid core, and that's what my courses focus on.
- There have been developments in privacy and privacy law (obviously) which are reflected in the BoK and updated coursebook.
- Cosmetic changes to body of knowledge
- Increased emphasis upon understanding (not just memorizing/regurgitating) which my courses already incorporated
- More notes on my updates to follow.
Website realignment
This is part of a process to realign my CIPP/US and privacy materials on my website.
I have broken longer pages into more manageable parts, and now there is a webpage to correspond to each part of my learning aids, and corresponding to each domain of the CIPP/US body of knowledge (BoK).
My courses
I have created two online courses to help people learn about privacy and prepare for this certification exam. I am now in the process of updating them (2026).
- My Udemy CIPP/US course was originally geared for lawyers and law students, but many non-lawyers have taken it too. It is on the Udemy learning platform, and you can purchase it for under $20, including with my coupon code. Quality, no frills, low video production skills, priced to be affordable for any budget, remember to find a coupon code.
- A CIPP/US course is geared for information security professionals, on the Infosec Skills learning platform (they were bought by Cengage, and that platform is subscription based).
Terminology
Things wouldn't be fun if everyone used the same terminology so here's a key.
- The CIPP/US Body of Knowledge (BoK) is broken into 5 domains, and they use Roman numerals, I, II, III, IV, V.
- Here on this website, I call each part of my CIPP/US learning materials a Part.
- My courses include an introductory part, a part for each CIPP/US domain, then a concluding part. So that's seven parts, and I use Arabic numerals (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).
- Whether you are taking one of my CIPP/US courses or not, navigating here is simple.
- At Udemy, I publish a CIPP/US Course, and each course is made up of Sections, which have videos or handouts. My Udemy CIPP/US course has seven sections.
- At InfoSec Skills (a Cengage company), their largest learning unit is called a Learning Path, and a learning path is made up of smaller Courses. My InfoSec CIPP/US learning path has 7 courses, plus a practice exam.
