Online Courses by John Bandler
I have created some online courses that are available via two different platforms: Udemy and Infosec Skills (a Cengage company).
Each platform is different so here's some information you help you decide which is right for you, and then where to go for more information.
Here is the quick breakdown:
1. Udemy online courses for almost anyone
Here's some quick points on Udemy and my courses there.
- Create a Udemy account for free
- Udemy is an enormous platform covering an enormous range of learning topics from many instructors.
- You pick whatever course interests you. Many free courses available, many paid courses available too (that's how they make their money)
- Always check for best deals and coupon codes (including mine)
- Udemy instructors are independent and do their own course development (within guidelines of the platform)
- My courses there are:
- Introduction to Law
- Privacy certification prep (IAPP CIPP/US) for lawyers and law students (many others are taking it too)
- Policies and Procedures for Your Organization
- How to learn, study, take an exam, write, and research (free for now)
- Cybersecurity (free for now)
- Cyberlaw (free for now)
- More coming, check my main Udemy page for updates.
To learn more about my Udemy courses and Udemy, see my main Udemy page.
2. Infosec Institute (a Cengage company) online courses for cybersecurity professionals
- Infosec Skills is subscription based (pay by month or year)
- Unlimited course access and learning during that period (month/year)
- Always check for best deal and coupon codes (including mine, BANDLER50)
- Free 7 day trial
- A platform for information security professionals
- A ton of content and range within the field of infosec related topics
- Infosec/Cengage commissions course development, vets, edits the courses
- My courses there are on:
- IAPP CIPP/US certification prep for infosec professionals (Certified Information Privacy Professional, US)
- Corporate Security Policies
To learn more about my Infosec/Cengage courses, see my main page on that.
3. Here's a recap of the basics
3.1 Visit my Udemy page for more on Udemy and my courses there. Udemy is good if you are looking for "a la carte" learning on almost any subject imaginable. Meaning you select whatever course interests you, from whatever instructor, whatever topic. My courses are within my areas of knowledge, there are about 75,000 other instructors on the platform.
3.2 Visit my Infosec Skills/Cengage page for more on them and my courses there. Infosec Skills is good if you want subscription based learning or are an infosec professional, or just want my fuller CIPP/US prep course. That platform is geared for information security (just like the name says). BANDLER50 gets you 50% off your first purchase.
3.3 Always check for coupon codes from reliable sources (e.g., me and the platform) to get your best deal. Read more about Udemy pricing on my Udemy main page.
4. What about students taking a course with me "online" course at a college or university?
If you are taking one of my courses at a formal academic institution, including online-only courses at a college or graduate school, then this page is not meant for you (nor is the Udemy page nor the Infosec Skills page). You need to see your learning management system (LMS) resources and my Course Resources. That said, if you are interested in a free coupon code for any of my Udemy courses, please contact me via school email or see me in class.
LMS platforms include Blackboard, Canvas, Brightspace (D2L, Desire to Learn, "Classes") and whatever your school is using now or migrates to next.
I have been teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and law school level since about 2017, at several different academic institutions and across many learning management systems (LMS). To streamline all of this I have built many resources on this site to support students and my teaching.
After putting much work into my teaching materials for undergraduate, graduate, and law school students, I decided to try putting some of those out to broader platforms (Udemy, etc).
5. Disclaimer
Each platform has their own rules and processes, and they could change things, that's up to them. If you join their platform, that's between you and them. I try to keep this reasonably up to date and accurate, but things change. Please let me know if you find this needs any updates, or how your experience is with each platform and my courses there.
